A Game of Gods
Chief Cleric and Stormlord of Talos. Lord of Chaos and Destruction.
Durak’s mother a prostitute working the streets of Baldur’s Gate became pregnant with him after servicing an orc client. After giving birth to him she decided that she did not want the stigma of raising a half orc child so she took Durak and left him on the steps of the temple to Talos on the outskirts of the city during one of the largest storms in the city’s history. The clerics of Talos rather than sacrificing the child to Talos decided that as the child was given to them during a storm that this child was clearly sent by Talos himself. They took the child in and raised him as their own. The child being half orc showed natural strength of body so the clerics emphasised his training in more academic directions to provide him with a strong mind in addition to his natural prowess. With his talents and aggression combined he soon became the favourite youngling at the temple with the clerics doting on him. By the age of 12 he had passed his tests to be welcomed into the order as a cleric of the church.
After becoming a cleric Durak travelled the realms of Faerun for 3 years with several of his brother clerics spreading the holy word of Talos among the peasant folk of the kingdoms. Upon his return to the temple at Baldur’s Gate the cleric’s hailed him for his dedication to their lord. As a reward they made him one of the holy stormlords of Talos. While he was in Baldur’s Gate learning to wield the powers of the storm from the other stormlords he met a man that changed his life. His greatest friend and ally Adatha. Adatha was a half elf apprenticed to a wizard in Baldur’s Gate. They met during a bar fight where they became close friends who began travelling the realms of Faerun together seeking adventure and riches. In their journeys together they met the acquaintance of a fallen paladin elf named Alasio who amused them so much they decided to allow him to join them in their adventures.
Together all three travelled the realms having many adventures and earning names for themselves. Until word reached them that Baldur’s Gate the place all three had always thought of as their home. Adatha teleported them all to Baldur’s Gate where they fought in its defence from a large army lead by an insane goblin wizard. After they were instrumental to the defence of the city during the attack they were honoured as heroes. During his defence of the city and the fallout after the event Durak became reacquainted with his mother and was later introduced to his half brothers and sisters (of which he had many of varying half breeds as it appeared his mother had been popular in her youth).
Using he newly acquired influence and favour in the city he and Adatha used some of the wealth they had accumulated over their years of adventuring to purchase land in Baldur’s Gate. They retired in Baldur’s Gate intending to live a quite life. Durak took over as the chief cleric of the temple to Talos in the city which he used his influence and wealth to extent the temples influence and power throughout the city. Adatha retired as a man of leisure enjoying his free time to research magic’s. After several decades Adatha he expanded his arcane power and become an Elemental Savant thus solving the problem of mortality facing the three friends. He had also found a method to help his now aging friend Durak from growing old and dying. In his research he had found a method of burning learnt magic into ones blood thus changing a wizard into a sorcerer through the use of dragon’s blood by transferring some of the blood magical properties in to the subject’s blood. So they did something they had not done in years and set out on a quest to find and slay and appropriately powerful dragon. Adatha been teaching Durak in the arcane arts for years and Durak was now an accomplished wizard so once they had tracked down and slew the dragon they used the technique and altered Durak’s blood to be that of a sorcerers. They then used another magical ritual to draw the newly imbued dragon blood from within Durak’s blood to the surface thus turning Durak into a Dragon Disciple. As the years progressed Durak’s body changed and became that of a half dragon granting him a now much increased life span to one similar to dragons.
Over the next 1000 years Durak and Adatha enjoyed their newly acquired immortality. They lived the high life expanding their power bases and occasionally taking a part in a quest when approached by a brave or interesting individual. Or occasionally playing a part in the brief lives of, those that they had recently started to look down upon as, mortals for their amusement. About 300 years ago said good bye to their old friend Alasio who being an elf had a long life but was never will to extend his life to the degree that Durak and Adatha had achieved. When he died to 2 truly went into retirement and as of more recent years they have both become weary of life on the material plane and have more and more ventured into other planes of existence for their amusement. But Durak unlike Adatha still maintains a strong influence over his affairs in the material realms and regularly spends time there where he administers Talos’ affairs in Faerun and ensures to the happy lives of all the descendants of his brothers and sisters.
